Clio ICE Trophy (2RM), Side by Side (SBS) and ICE Gladiators (motorcycles) willbe the categories that will face off on the Andorran ice track.
As usual at the beginning of the last few seasons, the GSeries (Andorran ice driving championship) which are held at the facilities of Circuit Andorra – Pas de la Casa, will once again be the focal point for international motorsport fans.
In this edition (2024), the great news will be the presence of ANDBANK as a sponsor of a competition that has experienced constant growth in recent seasons. The support coming from the Andorran bank will be a very important step for the definitive consolidation of a championship that has more and more stalwart fans.
The organisers maintain much of the structure.
The current edition of the AndbankGSeries will once again be four meets scheduled in the evening/night. Specifically, the first two dates expected are 13th and 20th January, while the following two will be contested over the course of February (3rd and 10th), with the 17th of the same month being set aside in case it cannot be held on any of the above dates.
As for the schedule, it should be noted that the organisers plan each meet to be held between 4 p.m. and 10:30 p.m on the mentioned days. As always, however, the weather will have the last word.
The categories that will compete in the AndbankGSeries 2024 will be: Side by Side (SBS), Clio ICE Trophy (2RM) and ICE Gladiators (motorbikes).
In this edition of the Andorran ice driving championship there will be a maximum of 14 buggies (SBS) on the track, with two drivers (mandatory) who will share the same vehicle, with the exception of the quadriplegic driver, Joan Lascorz, who will race alone.
In the 2RM, there will be a maximum of 9 cars that will compete in each meet. There must also be two drivers who will alternate behind the wheel of the same car. It should be mentioned that the Clio ICE Trophy will be reserved for the model Renault Clio Rally 5, first FIA category designed for young drivers to start rallying worldwide.
The category reserved for bikers, as always, will be co-organised with the members of the Andorran Motorcycle Federation (FMA), and will follow a timed competition different from that four-wheeled vehicle categories.
Another of the variants that the organisers are determined to follow, if the weather permits, is to “offer” the pilots a different route in each meet. So, the AndbankGSeries 2024 will be contested on four different circuits within the same facilities. Those responsible for the event took good note of this option due to the warm reception from most of the participants in previous editions of the event.
Maria Suarez (Director of Andbank Country Banking) used these words to refer to both the Andorran ice driving competition and the facilities at Port d’Envalira: “At Andbank, we believe that both the Circuit Andorra project and the GSeries competition are very important events that bring great international exposure to the country. That is why we wanted to get involved in what is already a must-see sporting event in the world of winter motoring”. She also stated that “the work that Àlex and his team are doing in this circuit throughout the year is a sure sign of success, as it could not be otherwise given the drive they have”.
For Alex Bercianos (Director of Circuit Andorra) the pre-season has been tough, but very fruitful.
Before reaching the final stretch of each event, there is some essential preliminary work to ensure the competition gets off to a successful start. Alex Bercianos and his team have enough experience in launching the AndbankGSeries to confirm the previous statement.
This was how Bercianos put it at the Andbank sponsorship presentation: “I must say that I am very pleased with the agreement reached with Andbank to accelerate the growth of the AndbankGSeries, a fully consolidated competition. This is proven by the fact that we had to put the ‘sold-out sign’ up after just a few days of opening registrations”. Then he added: “During the year we made some changes to the Circuit Andorra facilities, whose aim is none other than to offer the teams that visit us a stage where they feel comfortable and can enjoy their work. We prioritise quality over quantity, which is why we think it’s good to limit the number of entrants to offer a worthy work space, without ‘overcrowding’, always within our limits”.
A service that has been long requested by both participating teams and the fans who come to the Port d’Envalira facilities was to “recharge their batteries” without having to go far. In this respect, Alex and his team have also found the solution: “That’s right, the meets last for several hours, even though they start in the mid-afternoon, there are teams that enter the pits in the morning and spend many hours taking advantage of every minute. With the
new catering service, not only do they have the chance to eat without leaving the track but, if necessary, they will be able to ask for whatever they want to be brought to the pit at a certain time. I think that to take advantage of the time at very specific moments will be a very positive measure, especially for those competing in the race”.
Next Saturday (the 13th) at 4:00 pm, the vehicles (motorcycles) in the first category competing in this edition of the AndbankGSeries will start off.
