Andbank is cooperating for the fourth year. The dates of the event have been brought forward and the subject of articles will be open.
The fourth year of the Young Journalist Award, which is organized by ARA Andorra, with sponsorship by Andbank, is extending the age range of participants this year up to 25, with the aim of achieving maximum participation. This means that high school and vocational training students can enter as well as university undergraduate students from Andorra up to the age of 25, regardless of whether they study abroad.Unlike previous awards, this year the subject of the articles will be totally open, and students can enter in the three usual categories: written, photographic and/or audiovisual media.
With the aim of encouraging participation, the fourth year of the award has brought forward the dates of the event to coincide with the first term of the school year, which is when students have a lighter workload. The application period commenced on Tuesday 31 October and participants have until 25 January to submit their work, so they can use the Christmas holidays to finish it.
The aim of the contest is to awaken interest among young people in journalism and the world of the media, as well as to encourage their communication skills. As indicated in a press conference by Josep Maria Cabanes, the Country Banking Deputy General Manager at Andbank, the main sponsor of the event, the aim is to motivate young people to choose this profession, considering that there are few journalists in the country, and so that tomorrow they can help inform and make Andorra increasingly widely known. The ARA Andorra business manager, Toni Corominas, added that journalism is indeed gaining even more prominence in the turbulent times being experienced by our neighbouring country.
Considering the extension of the age range, a new prize category has been created just for university students, and the author of the best work will win a trip for two people. Three categories remain for high school and vocational training participants, so that the authors of the best written and audiovisual item will each win a 32 GB iPad, and the winner of the photographic category will receive a Nikon compact camera. All the pieces of work will in addition be published on the Ara.ad. portal.
To enter for the prize, you must be a follower of the ARA Andorra and Andbank Facebook pages, the main sponsor, and fill out a form by using the Ara.ad website or the registration point that has also been enabled on the Andbank Facebook page.
The jury for the Young Journalist Award 2018 will evaluate the pieces of work according to their interest and journalistic quality and will announce its verdict on 8 February. It is formed by professionals from the different media sources in the country: Xavier Mujal, manager of RTVA; Arnau Colominas, director of the Periódico de Andorra; Noemí Rodríguez, director of strategy and communication at Cadena Pirenaica; Ester Pons, chief content officer at Radio Ser Principado de Andorra; and Marta Tort, ARA Andorra coordinator; as well as the person in charge of communications at Andbank, Meritxell Roca, and the general manager of the Valentí Claverol Foundation, David Claverol.
The ARA Young Journalist Award is sponsored by Andbank, Molines Patrimonis, Reig Capital Group, the Valentí Claverol Foundation and ST, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
